Slice and dice

This past weekend I learned that I don't like soy milk in my coffee and that Mandolins are dangerous.

Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn

Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a large, deep pot. Once melted, add 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract, 1 tsp. cinnamon. Turn up the heat to high, if not already. Drop in a kernel and once it pops add anywhere from 1/2 cup (if you like it extra sweet) to 1 cup (if you like it lightly sweetened) of kernels. I usually add 3/4 cup to get it just right. Cover with a tight fitting lid, then once it starts popping, shake the pan back and forth vigorously until all kernels stop popping. Be careful not to burn! Sprinkle with some sea salt if so desired. Enjoy!

Iceland Part One

Back in October we took a quick trip through the Southern portion of Iceland. Click through for more...

I'm suddenly wishing I had gotten the raw cashews instead of the roasted while at the store today.  From Anthropologie's blog...

image
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
1 cup raw cashews (soaked for 4 to 8 hours)
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbs. agave nectar
1/2 tsp. sea salt
3 cups water

HOW TO MAKE IT…
Drain the cashews and rinse with cold water. Combine cashews and remaining ingredients in a blender (we used a Vitamix, but any high-speed model should do the trick). Start at a low speed, then crank up to high. Let the mixture blend for about five minutes, or until it reaches the desired toasty temperature and creamy consistency. Serve immediately in a mug or tumbler.

Makes three servings.

Citrus overload

I'm ready for the weekend.

My mother and aunt were your typical bell bottom wearing, feathered hair, weed smoking party girls throughout the 70's, 80's and a slight pour over into the 90's. I was babysat by bikers and wore roach clips in my hair. We frequented the desert, took van trips to the mountains and camped on the beaches of Tijuana.

I grew up in an adult world but maintained a childhood innocence with a ferocious appetite for knowledge and experience and a heavy dose of curiosity. I often cataloged the adult things that my child brain would see but not "get" for that day when I was finally, as my mother put it, "older".

This arbitrary time of "older" told me nothing and always pushed me to wear her down with incessant whining and nagging.."but I'm getting older every second!" "I want an exact age or date!!!" I managed to win 90% of the time and it was ALWAYS worth the battle!

This amazing collection of rad times has brought me back to that catalogue and the awesome memories that, when viewed through my adult eyes, feels like a whole new experience.

This week needs to end already. I'm so over it!!

Coming soon

We went to Iceland in October and I still haven't gotten around to sifting through the 660+ photos I took until now. Photo taking is fun! Photo editing, not so much.

Winter doldrums

Sitting in a boring meeting, barely able to stay awake. It's -8 outside and all I can think about are days spent here
Stone Harbour. July 2010.

A few of my favorite things

I couldn't make it through a single day without each one of these products. So, I thought I'd share them and why they rock.

• The Mary Kay Eye Makeup remover works wonders at removing even the most heavy duty, waterproof eyeliner and mascara without leaving behind an oil slick.

• The Pond's Rejuveness Moisterizer was in the travel toiletries at Target and only 2 bucks, I think. I bought it just because it was inexpensive and cute. Turns out this stuff is awesome! Doesn't break me out and not too greasy to put on under makeup. A true winner, on my book!

• Then there is the L'Oreal Skin Beautifier BB cream, which is completely unlike the BB creams currently being marketed in America. It's light and matte and stays put all day. I have worn it to work everyday for the past 6 months and have even ditched other, heavier foundations for other occasions. The selling point is that it dries to a powder finish and I never know it there once it's on.

So, while it's fun being a product junkie, it's even more enjoyable to have a few simple products you can rely on!

Let's roll

Here we are again. Another year, another attempt at making ourselves into the people we want to be. I, for one, plan on taking 2014 by storm. Got a new do, a healthy eating plan and a few trips to look forward to. I have also set a few major but attainable goals and plan to fill the year with more crafting, friend time and exploring.

Spent NYE at a pretty barn wedding.

Going back to bangs.

Eating clean.

The snow keeps piling up but I don't mind! I kinda love it!!
